Amazon’s latest patent hints towards On-Demand Clothing!

It looks like Amazon has a great idea to cut down on clothing manufacturing costs. How does it do it?

It looks like Amazon has a great idea to cut down on clothing manufacturing costs. How does it do it? Well, the patent talks about how the clothes only start stitching once an order is placed.

The U.S. patent 9,623,578 titled, ‘On demand apparel manufacturing’ describes a system which evaluates all the orders placed worldwide through a computer software and the data collected is then used to come up with an efficient plan to fulfill those orders.

In one of the embodiments, Amazon proposes that orders can be based on one or more productivity factors, such as size, shape, fabric type, or delivery location for the textile products. It does not restrict itself to clothing but also mentions taking this technology to manufactures gloves, scarves, hats, footwear, curtains, towels, beddings etc. and not just restricting to any particular material. It will have the ability to manufacture out of cotton, plastic, rubber, leather etc. It all fits into the strategy as they launched seven brands last year and also carried out an aggressive ad campaign with Vitalic. By aggregating orders from various geographic locations and coordinating apparel assembly processes on a large scale, the patent describes how an already efficient supply chain from Amazon can further benefit through this.
