Officers stopped the car and learned the driver, Tyreek Roach, 24, did not have insurance. Roach consented to a search of the car, where investigators found a loaded firearm with an extended magazine that also had a switch that makes the weapon fully automatic, the sheriff's office said.

They also saw a child in the backseat, not wearing a seat belt.

Roach was taken into custody, and the child was picked up by a family friend.

Roach was charged with felon in possession of a machine gun and cited for speeding, violating the state’s child restraint law, and driving without insurance.

He was ordered to Cook County Jail custody on May 6 following his initial court appearance at the Markham Courthouse.
