Attempted Murder Charge For Man Accused Of Shooting At Cop In Ford Heights
Police were called to a Ford Heights residence for a domestic disturbance before a 22-year-old man allegedly opened fire.

FORD HEIGHTS, IL — A Ford Heights man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he shot a Cook County Sheriff’s police officer Sunday afternoon while the officer was responding to his residence for a call of a domestic disturbance.
Deandre Barnes, 22, of the 1400 block of Diplomat Lane in Ford Heights fired multiple rounds at the officer near the entrance of his home around 1:05 p.m., according to a news release from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. The officer did not return fire and was not injured, although he was briefly hospitalized for a medical evaluation.
The Sheriff’s Office announced attempted murder charged against Barnes Monday morning. He was taken into custody by other officers at the scene on Sunday after “multiple commands” were made ordering him to come out of the home, police said.

Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene.
Barnes made his initial court appearance on the charge at the Markham Courthouse on Monday.
