Bloom 206 Assistant Superintendent to Retire, Bloom Trail Principal to Resign

The retirement of Assistant Superintendent of Business Mark Sheahan and the resignation of Bloom Trail High School Principal Joe Schimmel are two of several personnel shuffles approved by District 206 Board of Education at a meeting Monday, Feb. 13.

After 15 of years with , Assistant Superintendent of Business Mark Sheahan is retiring.

Sheahan's retirement was accepted at a Board of Education meeting Monday, Feb. 13.

The 56-year-old told Patch that he is looking forward to a career change -- even at his age, he added with a laugh.

"I consider my time with the district a success," he said. "I came here to get a job, it became a career. I got valuable experience and now I want to move on and do something different."

Sheahan has spent a total of 22 years working as a business manager for school districts. He is a CPA and has an MBA. As the superintendent of business, Sheahan was frequently called on to at board of education meetings.

Acting Superintendent Lenell Navarre said Sheahan has done a "great job" for the district. Navarre said the district will post the position in March.

Shehan's position isn't the only one that will be vacant in June. The board accepted the resignation of Joe Schimmel, principal at , also effective June 30.

Navarre said Schimmel has been with the district three years and has been principal of Bloom Trail for two.

The board also accepted:

  • resignation of Shelah Smith, CTE/Art teacher at Bloom Trail High School
  • resignation from Mark DeBold, science teacher at Bloom High School
  • retirement for Julie Nowak, employee benefits at the Administration center, contingent upon receipt of letter of retirement pursuant to agreement
  • resignation for retirement from Julia Lacey, remedial education teacher at Bloom Trail High School, effective at the end of the 2015-16 year
  • resignation from Suzanne Lintzenich, science teacher at Bloom Trail High School
  • two leaves of absence and one custodial appointment

Board Welcomes Demitrowicz

The board also approved the appointment of Shari Demitrowicz as Division Coordinator for special education at .

Demitrowicz is a 1979 graduate of Bloom High School and also was inducted into the school's first Hall of Fame.

“I look forward to being reconnected with District 206,” she said, “and being a part of making a difference that will last a lifetime for students, their families and the community.”
