Bloom Township Football Stands Up to the Heat of Camp

A young Blazing Trojans' team coming off a 1-8 season looks to make strides this summer.

After finishing last season with a 1-8 record and losing many starters, the Bloom Township football team has nowhere to go but up.

The Blazing Trojans are spending this summer trying to do just that.

“I have set a goal for the kids in the program to take each day as it comes,” coach Tony Palombi said. “Anything can happen on any given day. So, each day we are looking to win that day and feel good about what we accomplished.”

The Blazing Trojans have been spending the summer at camp and scrimmaging in 7-on-7 events. Each time they go to a 7-on-7 they get to play three games against live competition, which is what Palombi is looking for.

“We don’t have a lot of returners, so we are a young team,” he said. “Right now, we are just looking for competition and going up against someone, overcoming adversity, getting in shape and getting our timing down.”

Palombi is entering his seventh season as the Blazing Trojans' coach. He and his staff are happy with the progress they've seen in recent days and weeks, particularly at the quarterback position.

“The kids have been great to be with every day," Palombi said. "I can’t wait to come out here and hang out with them and teach them (during fall camp)."

With the first game of the season just six week away, he is hoping to turn around a Bloom program that has struggled for success in recent years.

“I want my team to be hungry and have a desire to change the way things were and set a new tradition,” Palombi said.
