Bloom Township Students Attend World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates

Bloom and Bloom Trail students learned about peace, politics and making the world a better place.

On Monday, April 24, approximately 24 students from Bloom and Bloom Trail attended the 12th Annual World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.

This was an extraordinary opportunity for the students because this event marked the first time the conference was held in a North American city, Chicago. The District administration, specifically Dr. Lenell Navarre, Superintendent, and Mr. Kyle Hastings, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, asked the building principals to select a dozen students from each building to represent the District.

The District administration thought the students would benefit from the exposure to the thinking, vision and work of leaders throughout the world.

Some of the keynote speakers featured at the event were Lech Walesa, former president of Poland; William de Klerk, former president of the Republic of South Africa; Jimmy Carter, former president of the United States; and Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Union of Soviet Social Republics. These were some of the noted panelists who were present at the event to discuss world events and world peace.

The Summit is a three-day event. At the conclusion of the event, Sean Penn will be the recipient of the 2012 Peace Summit Award.
