Chicago Heights Man Charged With Murder Following Home Invasion

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL – A Chicago Heights man is facing multiple charges following a home invasion that left one man dead and a woman injured. Timothy McClendon Jr., 28, is accused of forcing his way into a house in the Ford Heights neighborhood before opening fire on one person inside, CBS 2 Chicago reported.

On Nov. 25, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said Deangelo Curtis, 34, of Chicago Heights, was
holding a gun in his hand when McClendon fatally shot him, the TV station reported.

A 36-year-old woman, McClendon's ex-girlfriend, was wounded in the crossfire. An investigation determined she was shot by Curtis' gun, according to the sheriff's office. ABC 7 reported that she was taken to Franciscan St. James Hospital where her condition was stabilized.

The Chicago Tribune reported that McClendon was struck in the hip and leg during the bullet exchange. He told investigators that he fired in self defense. He was taken to a hospital in Dyer, Indiana for his injuries and later transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Cente

McClendon Jr. is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, home invasion, and
violation of an order of protection. A judge denied his bail on Friday. He is due back in court on Dec. 3.
