Update: Dead Chicago Heights Woman Identified

Police reports that a 19-year-old Chicago Heights woman has been killed. According to authorities, people of interests are being questioned.

A 19-year-old Chicago Heights woman was killed early Saturday morning after sustaining multiple gunshots, according to .

At about 12:28 a.m. police said they responded to shots fired on the 200 block of west 14th Place, near her home, where they observed the unresponsive victim, Danielle Simmons.

The Simmons was standing about two blocks from her home with a group of people when she was shot in the neck, according to a report by NBC 5 Chicago. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide.

After transporting her to St. James Hospital and Health Center, she was pronounced dead at about 1:08 a.m., police said.

According to authorities, the Simmons’s body has been taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed.

“There are people of interest that are now being questioned,” said Detective Art Robles of the Chicago Heights Police Department, but no one has been charged yet.

Robles said the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Chicago Heights Police Department are conducting an investigation of the crime.
