CHSD170’s Greenbriar Students Shine at the District Spelling Bee
The school's team earn a pair of first and second place honors
Greenbriar School earned a pair of wins and two second-place finishes at the School District 170 Spelling Bee that was contested recently at Washington-McKinley School.
The event involved teams representing each of the district's neighborhood schools.
"I am most pleased to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that our students showed in working with Coaches Wolframski, Scharwarth, and Wise while preparing for the Spelling Bee and in representing our school in an exemplary manner at this annual event," said Principal Joe Taylor.

Greenbriar's 5th and 6th-grade team of Alex Kvasnicka, Alexandria Cowan, Marisela Soto, and Vanessa Soto, and the 2nd and 3rd-grade team of Dalilah Lutin-Martinez, Tyler Carlson, Aubree Kvasnicka, Bronx Debergh, and Zoe Crawford took the grade-level championships at the event.
The school's 7th and 8th-grade team of Brooke Manson, Esmeralda Mendoza, Eric Esquivel, and Tyler Besson, and the 4th-grade team of Kaydence Norfleet, Milo Perez, Daiana Tavarez, Israel Estrada, and Riley Galinski earned second-place finishes at the competition.

Students Olivia O'Neal and Mariela Villanueva were supposed to represent Greenbriar but missed the event because of illness.
Ellen Wise and Stevie Scharwarth served as members of the CHSD170 Spelling Bee committee and coached the teams from the primary grades. Laura Wolframski headed the district's Spelling Bee committee and coached both the 5th/6th-grade and 7th/8th-grade teams.
