Voters weighed in on minimum wage, sick leave and gun control on Nov. 6 ballot.

COOK COUNTY, IL -- Cook County voters answered county-wide advisory referendums which could spark future legislation. Voters weighed in on gun control, minimum wage and guaranteed sick time. All results are unofficial until certified.

Voters were asked if controls should be tightened for gun dealers:

“Should the State of Illinois strengthen penalties for the illegal trafficking of firearms and require all gun dealers to be certified by the State?”

Yes - 1,342,959 (91.4%)
No - 129,537 (8.6%)
3,493 out of 3,668 precincts reporting

Cook County voters were also asked to consider two separate questions on whether their respective municipalities should increase minimum wage to $13 per hour and if workers should receive guaranteed sick time.

“Shall the minimum wage in your municipality match the $13 per hour Cook County minimum wage law for adults over the age of 18 by July 1, 2020, and be indexed to the consumer price index after that?”
Yes - 1,259,672 (84.5%)
No - 230,618 (15.5%)

“Shall your municipality match the Cook County earned sick time law which allows for workers to earn up to 40 hours (5 days) of sick time a year to take care of their own health or a family member's health?”
Yes - 1,342,959 (89.4%)
No - 159,767 (10.6%)

Many home-rule municipalities opted out of Cook County’s minimum wage and sick leave ordinances, keeping the local minimum wage at $8.25 an hour.
