Author Lippincott to Discuss Monumental Artwork at GSU

Author Jonathan Lippincott, a witness to the creation of some of the 20th century’s most monumental works of art, will discuss his book, “Large Scale: Fabricating Sculpture in the 1960s and 1970s,” during a July 14 appearance at Governors State University.

Lippincott, whose father Donald was a founder of the Lippincott Foundry in North Haven, Conn., will also tour GSU’s Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park during his visit to the university. The sculpture park is home to Clement Meadmore’s “Spiral,” fabricated at the foundry in 1971.

Lippincott’s appearance takes place from 6:45-8 p.m., in Sherman Hall. There is a $5 charge for the general public; students with an ID can attend for free.

The Lippincott Foundry was an important center for monumental sculpture during a period that has been called the golden age of public art.

Lippincott’s presentation will provide a window into the fabrication process and the road from shop to galleries, art museums, private collections, and public art shows.
