Marian Catholic Leadership Program to Host Notre Dame Psychology Professor

Daniel Lapsley, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Notre Dame, is set to speak at Marian Catholic High School as part of the school’s Leadership Program speakers series.

Chicago Southland and northwest Indiana parents, teachers, and youth organization leaders are invited and encouraged to attend the Wednesday, Oct. 5, lecture in the Sr. M. Paul McCaughey, O.P. Leadership Center beginning at 7 p.m.

Lapsley’s research focuses on various topics in adolescent social cognitive and personality development, including work on adolescent invulnerability and risk behavior, narcissism, separation-individuation, self, ego and identity development, and college adjustment. He also studies the moral dimensions of personality and other topics in moral psychology, and has written on moral identity and moral and character education.

Parents and educators will hear how adolescent risk-taking is often tied to poor decision-making and judgment, yet adolescence is also a period of expanding cognitive and rational capabilities. Learning how to reconcile the two will be examined through explanations for this puzzling phenomenon, while exploring practical suggestions for parents and educators.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Plenty of parking is available on the west side of campus.
