Felon Who Fled Cops Accused Of Ditching Gun At Judge's Home

A Harvey man remains behind bars in Northwest Indiana after police say he ditched his gun under the deck of a home of a local judge.

MICHIGAN CITY, IN - A man from south suburban Harvey who police say led them on a chase throughout town ditched his weapon in what turned out to be the unluckiest of spots. That would be on the Michigan City property of La Porte County Judge Michael Bergerson, police said.

Antoni Chamel Martin, 27 faces numerous charges in connection to the alleged Nov. 29 incident, according to The News-Dispatch. Martin is accused of leading police on a car chase before abandoning the vehicle and continuing on foot.

Bergerson said in a report that he was home at the time of the incident and heard a loud thud on his deck. Later that night he received a phone call from Michigan City Police Chief Mark Swistek, who said police would need to search his property. The search yielded a 9-millimeter handgun found under the judge’s deck, the News-Dispatch report states.
