Flossmoor Baseball and Softball Rebuilding the Girls Program

Fastpitch Softball team in Flossmoor is recruiting players

Last season was a tough one for Flossmoor Baseball and Softball. For the first time in over 20 years there were no girls playing softball in Flossmoor park. Declining numbers forced the board to cancel girls softball for the 2017 season. Many residents were taken aback by the lack of girl power on the familiar fields of Flossmoor park. This season, led by many new board members, the league has decided to attempt a rebuild of the girls program. For the 2018 season there will be two all-girl divisions, Filly (Pre-K & K tee ball) and Diamond (1st and 2nd grade softball). There will be NO registration fee for the girls to play in 2018. Registration includes free Sunday preseason training for the Diamond girls at HF high school's fantastic turf room, from January to March.

One of the great amenities, in the rebuilding effort, will be Flossmoor Hurricanes travel softball teams at the 14U and 16U levels for the 2018 spring/summer season. There is no in-house participation requirement to play on the travel teams. Top players will be eligible for MLB softball exposure camps. Both tems will compete in the MLB RBI Softball World Series in July 2018. The 14U team will play in the Chicago Sunday league and the South Suburban travel league through the spring. Most 16U players play for the high schools, so that team won't play until travel tournament season starts in June 2018. However, intense winter training sessions will begin later this month. Both 14U and 16U teams are currently looking for players. While the 16U has a coaching staff, the 14U team is currently looking for parents who are willing to take on training an eager group of talented young ladies. If you have or know a talented player who is interested in trying out please call or email the FBBSB V.P. of Girls softball, Jeff Kidd at 773-350-3394 or jeffkiddspot@gmail.com. Don't delay, roster spots are filling up as this article goes to post.
