Gimme 5: Toni Formentini's Spirit Moves Bloom
Junior center fielder sets the tone for the Blazing Trojans with her effervescent personality.
Toni Formentini plays softball with the same spirit and enthusiasm that she possesses off the field.
As a returning all-conference selection for Bloom, Formentini will be looked upon to provide some leadership to a team that lost a number of seniors off of last year’s squad.
The junior center fielder hit .377 with 36 runs scored last season.

“She’s a fun spirit; she’s great to be around,” Bloom coach Carrie Twietmeyer said. “If we did pick captains, I would pick Toni to be the captain of our team. She’s just a great kid.”
Although Formentini was Bloom’s starting center fielder last season, Twietmeyer said the speedy leadoff hitter might play some shortstop. No matter her defensive position, Formentini will be a force offensively, stealing bases and doing the little things teams require from the top of their lineup.

Still, Formentini knows there are things within her game that she can improve on.
“I need to work on keeping my head down because when I field I kind of lift my head up,” said Formentini, who took a bad hop to the chin in one of last year’s games.
