STICKNEY, IL -- A Hazel Crest woman was arrested after witnesses said she instigated a physical altercation with another woman at a Stickney gas station, prosecutors said. Franchesca Collins, 23, appeared before Cook County Judge Michael Kane on a battery causing bodily harm charge.

Cook County Sheriff’s police answered a call of a fight in in progress on May 30 at the Marathon station at 4957 S. Central Ave. in unincorporated Stickney. When officers rolled up on the scene, a woman, later identified at Collins, was punching another woman who was pinned to the ground, the prosecutor said.

Collins allegedly told police that she was at the Dunkin Donuts buying coffee when the other woman approached her from behind. The other woman started a verbal altercation and pushed her first, Collins reportedly claimed. Officers said the other woman had scratches around her eyes and was treated for bumps. The prosecutor said that clerks inside the gas station identified Collins as throwing the first punch.
