Heights Man Tried To Flee Park Forest Police, Cops Say

Park Forest police say a drunk driver who tried to flee had multiple outstanding warrants.

PARK FOREST, IL - A Chicago Heights man who police say fled law enforcement both in a vehicle and on foot in the overnight hours Sunday morning has been charged with several crimes.

Police in Park Forest say that they attempted to stop a vehicle on North Street near Orchard Boulevard at 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 when the driver of the car sped away.

About 45 seconds later, the driver lost control of the car and struck a guard rail at North and Homan Avenue, police said in a release on social media.

After a brief foot pursuit, the 35-year-old man was taken into custody by Park Forest police, who were assisted by a Matteson police officer.

The suspect, who was not named in the release, was charged with felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated driving while license revoked, and one count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer in addition to multiple traffic citations and outstanding warrants.

"It doesn't make sense to drink and drive," police said. "It makes even less sense to try to get away."
