Hello, My Name is Norm

T-rex skull on display.

The Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library invites everyone to come and meet Norm. Who is Norm? Norm is a life sized (5 foot long) fiberglass replica of a Tyrannosaurus skull on loan from The Field Museum. The original fossilized bones which served as the model for this replica were discovered in South Dakota in 1990 and are more than 67 million years old.

Norm the T-rex was 28 when he died making him the oldest Tyrannosaurus yet discovered. When Norm walked the earth, during the Late Cretaceous Period, the landscape of South Dakota was dramatically different. Rather than the dry plains seen today, the area would have contained lush tropical forests reflecting the warm humid climate of the area, complete with an inland sea. Norm would have been a member of an ecosystem which may have included freshwater fish, turtles, crocodiles, and salamanders.

The Friends of the Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library were instrumental in bringing Norm to the South Suburbs. Norm the T-rex awaits your visit, but he will only be at the Library for a very limited time, so stop in soon. For more information, call (708) 755-5040.
