K-9 Officer 'Cap' Will Get Bullet Proof Vest
'Cap,' the K-9 officer for the Chicago Heights Police Department, has been gifted a vest from a national nonprofit organization.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL - The Chicago Heights Police Department's K9 officer will be equipped with a bullet proof vest thanks to a charitable donation from an east coast non-profit organization. Chicago Heights Police Officer Phil Kostecka and K-9 Cap have been partners since 2014, according to a news release from Chicago Heights police. K-9 Cap, a dual purpose German Shepherd, will get his new bullet and stab proof vest in about eight weeks.
The donation comes from Vested Interest in K9s, a non-profit based in East Taunton, Massachusetts whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and assist dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The organization has provided more than 2,800 protective vests through private and corporate donations at a cost of over 2.4 million dollars since 2009.
The sponsor for K-9 Cap is Elizabeth Holota of Spring Lake, New Jersey. She donated $950 for it. Once he gets it, Cap's vest will read “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”
