Lansing Cop In Jordan Brunson Incident Sued
The family of a 15-year-old boy who was held by an off-duty police officer on the cop's front yard in Lansing in June has filed a lawsuit.
LANSING, IL -- A confrontation between an off-duty Lansing police officer and a 15-year-old boy on the front yard of the officer's home in June has resulted in a lawsuit filed by an attorney for the teen against the officer and the village of Lansing.
The lawsuit, filed last Thursday according to the Daily Southtown, names the officer involved in forcibly holding down the teenager during an investigation into a fight involving about 30 juveniles in the area.
The suit claims officer William Mason was without justification when he pinned down 15-year-old Jordan Brunson, who never posed a threat according to the lawsuit.

The June 24 incident was caught on video by a friend of Brunson's and captured national attention as a possible case of extended use of force by police. In the video, the officer can be heard saying "I'll (expletive) kill you" and asks a family member to retrieve his gun.

The suit claims Brunson "suffered and continues to suffer, among other things, bodily injury, pain, suffering, severe mental and emotional distress, fear, anguish, humiliation..."
Attorney Andrew M. Stroth, who specialized in cases of possible police brutality, called it "another case of a police officer using excessive and unreasonable force."
