Marian Catholic Softball Takes Aim at Regional Crown
Spartans' boys tennis success reaches new heights.

Marian Catholic’s softball team is looking for win No. 30 on the season and the Providence Catholic Regional championship when the Spartans take on Lockport today at 11 a.m. in New Lenox.
The Spartans (29-5) had no problem taking care of T.F. South in the regional semifinals on Tuesday. Marian won 10-0 in five innings for their 21st win in the last 22 games.
Pitcher Rachel Glenn threw a no-hitter and struck out six Rebels, and Shawna Sadler had three hits, including two doubles and four RBIs. The Spartans pounded out 14 hits, including two apiece from Becca Stanton, Bri Clark and Kelly Foley, and also took advantage of four Rebel errors.

The Spartans also won MVP and Coach of the Year honors in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Becca Gray, who has 20 wins this season and has been a force at the plate, was named conference MVP. Kerri Evans was named Coach of the Year for guiding the Spartans to the conference title and 28 regular-season wins. She earned the 300th win of her career with the final regular-season win, over St. Viator, which clinched the conference title.
Historic Season for Marian Boys Tennis
It’s been quite a season for Marian Catholic’s boys tennis program. Two weeks ago the Spartans won their first-ever East Suburban Catholic Conference title. Last Saturday at H-F, the Spartans won their first-ever sectional title, as junior Julian Childers took first place in singles, defeating H-F’s Brad Holt 6-4, 6-1, and Mitch Zavesky and Kyle Scheffers took first in doubles by beating H-F’s Jack Schumann and Kodie Hayes, 6-2, 6-2.

This weekend the Spartans are competing in the state meet at various schools in the north suburbs.
Marian’s Haynes 8th in State
Marian sophomore Imani Haynes took eighth place in state in the 100-meter high hurdles in last Saturday’s Class 3A girls track and field meet at Eastern Illinois University.
Spartans’ Boys Lacrosse Season Ends
Marian Catholic’s boys lacrosse season ended in the first round of the playoffs, as H-F earned a 7-4 victory over the Spartans (3-13) on Tuesday.
Marian’s Volleyball Season Ends
Marian Catholic saw its boys volleyball season come to an end as Providence Catholic earned a 25-10, 25-19 victory in the Marian Catholic Regional semifinals on Tuesday. Will Craft had four kills while Matt Anderson and Jason Kint each had three for the Spartans. Ryan Hutchison notched six digs and Connor Fagan had four digs as the Spartans finished the season with a 15-17 record.
Bloom Township’s Howard 14th in State
Bloom Township’s Justice Howard took 14th place in the Class 3A high jump last week at the girls state track and field meet at Eastern Illinois University.
Rich Central Baseball in Regional Finals
Rich Central beat Kankakee 2-0 on Friday in to advance to today’s regional championship game. The Olympians will take on Lincoln-Way West in New Lenox today at 10 a.m.
