Over 450 Seniors attended the annual picnic. JB Pritzger joined the seniors as a special guest along with Bloom Township dignitaries

For Bloom Township senior residents, a party celebrating summer was held at Veterans Memorial Park in Glenwood.

“This is one of the best gatherings where our seniors from twelve communities come together for a fun day,” explains Sheryl Ford the Executive Senior Director of Bloom Township. “It gets seniors out of their regular routine and outside for socialization.”

According to Sheryl, 470 seniors attended the picnic, 40 vendors showed their services and products, 30 YCLC youth workers 20 skyline pool staff and 20 twp employees served the seniors throughout the day.

“One of the best parts of the morning was forty vendors that were here to give seniors great information on programs and services that they are eligible for. There was also line dancing and fun and games from our DJ, Loren Gent,” adds Sheryl. “Intergenerational interaction with our youth workers was key. They provided food and fun with customized services and our golf cart transport.”

A surprise guest showed up, JB Pritzker, who is the democratic nominee running for Governor of Illinois. He spent the afternoon meeting the township seniors and posing for photos.

Bloom Township sponsors the picnic in its entirety. A complete chicken box lunch was provided along with pop and ice cream for dessert. A free gift was also handed out to everyone in attendance compliments of the Bloom Township Supervisor and Board of Trustees.

“Our goal is for everyone to leave today with a smile in their faces and talk about their experiences with friends and family,” said Sheryl. “ We hope they follow up with Bloom Township Senior Services and take advantage of our other programs and services not just the picnic.”
