Metra Cops Bust Calumet City Man With Pot On Train
Metra police say they found 41 baggies of marijuana on a Calumet City man aboard a Metra train last week.

CALUMET CITY, IL -- A Metra passenger from Calumet City was charged last week after Metra police say they found 41 bags of marijuana on him. Darris L. Johnson, 45 faces a felony marijuana possession for the charge he sustained Friday after he boarded Metra's Main Line that runs from 147th and Sibley Boulevard to Millennium Station in downtown Chicago.
A Metra conductor aboard Metra Electric Train 754 noticed a strong smell of marijuana and alerted Metra police officers who were on board, according to a news release from Metra. A search of the man in the vestibule of a coach car revealed 41 small baggies of marijuana, the release stated. The total amount of marijuana found was more than 31 grams.
Johnson was transported to the Cook County Detention Center in Chicago to await a bond hearing that is scheduled for Aug. 16.

“We appreciate the quick response of our onboard personnel, which resulted in Friday’s arrest,” Metra Police Chief Joseph Perez said. “We can’t emphasize strongly enough how important it is for people to help us and each other by reporting suspicious activity when they see it.”
