Prairie State College Dental Hygiene Program Promotes ‘Healthy Smiles’ During Annual Event

Healthy Smiles Day at Prairie State College (PSC) provides children from a local elementary school with free dental care. During the event, the PSC dental hygiene students and faculty saw 42 children. All 42 were given school exams, 39 received fluoride treatments, and 149 sealants were applied, which in private practice would cost approximately $10,722. The exams are done by a supervising dentist. With the event, all PSC dental hygiene students were able to complete their graduation quotas for working with pediatric patients and applying sealants.
