Chicago Heights Park District's West Golf Course is a nine-hole par-36, 3,064-yard layout. The land is lush and the prices are affordable.

The nine-hole Chicago Heights Park District West Golf Course facility has been open for only a decade, but the original Chicago Heights Golf Course itself has been around for 102 years. It's at the end of Scott Avenue just off of Route 30, in the heart of a residential community called the Old Country Club.

The grounds are lush and green with mature trees and beautiful streams. It was privately owned until the CHPD bought it in 2001.

"It's a beautiful course and the price is great," general manager John Stanfa said. "When the weather is good, our course is busy."

The current golf course superintendent is Juan Briseno. He handled groundskeeping work at Olympia Fields Country Club for about 20 years and brought his green thumb with him to the Chicago Heights Park District.

Specials for the West Course include a 2 for $20 deal on Friday; 2 people, 9 holes with a golf cart. A Tuesday special includes unlimited golf with a cart for $18 after 1 p.m. All season, the Instant Reply special is available. You get to play a second round and pay just $10 (with a receipt). If you paid for a cart in the first round, it's included free in the Instant Replay.

The course has a clubhouse, a pro-shop and a good supply of carts. Banquet facilities also are available.

"We try to keep prices down so we can serve all the needs of the community," Stanfa said.
