Sports Photo Gallery: Olympia Terrace Blue Rocks Take Little League Baseball Title

The Olympia Terrace Youth Association Blue Rocks edged the Matteson Phillies 10-8 to win the league championship.

The Matteson Phillies and the Chicago Heights Olympia Terrace Youth Association Blue Rocks were locked in a neck-and-neck duel for the Little League baseball championship.

In the end, the Blue Rocks prevailed 10-8. Bernie Gomez hit a grand slam in the second inning. Then, in the third,  the Matteson Phillies heated up their bats. Joshua Sims and doubled and Joshua White hit a grand slam.

The Blue Rocks called on Mike Bohlen to work in relief in the fifth. His pitching arm proved strong as he struck out a couple of batters and helped clinch the championship.

Phillies coach Steve Sims said, " All these boys right here, they are all honor-roll students. We are teaching these boys how to win, how to lose and how to be young men."

As players high-fived each other after a well-played game, Blue Rocks coach, Doug Surprenant said, "Every hit was big today, great defense in the field. David Gomez was everywhere today. He is the MVP for this game."

"We almost won the game," said the Phillies' Sims. "We kept trying until the last out."

Olympia Terrace Youth Association, president Jeff Bohlen treated the winning team to Zarlengos ice cream.
