Wendy's In Chicago Heights Robbed At Gunpoint

A man who ordered a frosty at Wendy's left with nearly $300 from the cash register after pulling a gun on an employee.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A man who ordered a frosty at the Wendy's in Chicago Heights Thursday night left the fast food restaurant on Lincoln Highway with nearly $300 from the cash register after he robbed an employee at gunpoint. Chicago Heights police continue to search for the man sought in the armed robbery reported at 6:24 p.m.

Chicago Heights Police Chief Thomas Rogers said the man walked up to the counter and ordered a frosty, gave the employee a handful of change to pay for the item and once the cash register was open "pulled a black in color semi-automatic hand gun from his pocket."

The man grabbed the cash drawer with the gun still drawn, leaving on foot with $296.41. He was last seen heading eastbound.

Chicago Heights police have begun an investigation, releasing two surveillance images of the robber that were apparently captured by security cameras inside Wendy's. The suspect is described as a black man, 5'6" to 5'9," weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing dark clothes, white shoes and had a brown bonnet on his head while robbing the restaurant.

A call to Wendy's at 10:15 p.m. went unanswered. The restaurant is listed on Google as being open until 3 a.m. on Thursdays.
