1 In Custody in Bike Path Hammer Attack

A 48-year-old Woodstock man faces attempted murder charges for allegedly attacking two women on a bike path in Crystal Lake.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 48-year-old Woodstock man is in custody in connection with an attack that occurred on a Crystal Lake bike path this past week, authorities told NBC 5 Chicago. Angel Reinaldo-Cardoza is charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of armed violence and four counts of aggravated battery.

More charges could be filed, police told NBC 5.

According to several reports, two women were hurt during the assault Tuesday on the Crystal Lake bike trail. The McHenry County Conservation District Police Department said the attack happened at about 5:15 p.m. on the Ridgefield Trace bike trail near Oak Street and Ridgefield Trace Road.

A witness claimed a man on a bike was hitting one of the woman with a hammer and then beat another woman who was trying to stop the attack. However, police haven't confirmed the hammer attack detail, according WLS. The two victims were taken to a local hospital with injuries and later released, according to the Daily Herald.
