1 Injured In Apartment Fire

The blaze broke out at a three-story apartment building in McHenry on Thursday afternoon.

MCHERNY COUNTY, IL — One person was injured when a blaze broke out at an a apartment building in McHenry Thursday afternoon, fire officials said. Fire crews responded at 4:52 p.m. to the three-story building at 4302 Shamrock Lane in McHenry where they found heavy smoke coming from a apartment on the second floor, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

A tenant in the apartment where the fire started sustained a minor injury to his hand and was treated and released at the scene. The blaze was contained to the kitchen of the apartment where it started and was brought under control within 10 minutes, fire officials said.

The blaze caused $12,000 in damage, and the apartment unit is currently uninhabitable. The rest of the apartment building remains occupied, according to the news release.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District deemed the blaze as accidental in nature due to a fire that occurred on top of the stove while cooking.

In total, 44 firefighters from seven different fire departments assisted in battling the blaze.
