1 Killed In Crystal Lake-Area Crash
A single vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree Sunday morning on Butternut Drive, according to Crystal Lake Fire Rescue.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 23-year-old Woodstock man was killed early Sunday after the pickup truck he was driving crashed near Crystal Lake.
Emergency crews were called to the single-vehicle collision near Butternut Drive and Chestnut Drive in unincorporated Crystal Lake at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, a preliminary investigation shows the man was driving a 2024 Toyota Tacoma west on Butternut Drive when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The Toyota left the roadway to the south, crossed Chestnut Drive and hit several trees, according to a news release.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities said speed, weather conditions and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
