14 Residents Of Apartment Complex Displaced Following Fire
The blaze broke out in an apartment on Darlington Lane in Crystal Lake Sunday evening.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — One person was injured and 14 people have been displaced following a fire at an apartment building at 570 Darlington Lane in Crystal Lake Sunday evening, fire officials said.
The blaze broke out in an apartment at about 6:10 p.m. and one person inside the apartment sustained burn injuries while trying to put out the fire and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley for treatment, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.
All other residents were able to safely get out of the apartment building, which authorities say did not have a working fire sprinkler system. The blaze was brought under control by 6:51 p.m., according to fire officials.

The apartment where the blaze started had heavy fire damage, and the remaining seven units in the apartment complex sustained heat, smoke and water damage. The entire complex has been deemed uninhabitable and the blaze caused an estimated $70,000 in damage.
The property management company that owns the complex and the American Red Cross are assisting the 14 residents who have been displaced because of the fire, according to the news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears the blaze started on a kitchen stove while residents were heating cooking oil.
