2 McHenry Co. Brewers Compete At Great American Beer Festival

Beer makers from around the state, including two from McHenry County, will head to Denver hoping to take home gold.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Two McHenry County brewers are competing this week at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. At the Thursday through Saturday event, the brewers will be competing for gold, silver or bronze medals and the coveted “Brewer of the Year” title.

Now in its 40th year, the festival will feature more than 2,000 beers from 500 breweries, including 16 breweries in Illinois. Among them are the following breweries from McHenry County:

  • Kishwaukee Brewing, Woodstock: Baltic Porter, Brown, Doppelbock, Oktoberfest, Saison
  • MORE Brewing, Huntley: Barrel-Aged Henna: Birthday, Henna: Hazelnut Latte, Javalin, Moreover, Watermelon Chula

In 2021, a number of Illinois brewers claimed medals at the Denver event. Here is a look at the local brewers that won awards:

  • ALT 140 from Sew Hop’d Brewing in Huntley received a silver medal
  • Too Much Cologne from Crystal Lake Brewing in Crystal Lake received a bronze medal.
