24 Scott's Law Tickets Issued During McHenry Co. Detail

On Monday, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office traffic unit conducted the speical traffic detail.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Sheriff's Office issued 24 Scott's Law tickets during a special detail this past week.

On Monday, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office traffic unit conducted the traffic detail, focusing on various roads throughout the county and checking to see if motorists were following Scott’s Law, according to a news release.

Scott’s Law required that drivers, when approaching any stationary vehicle with flashing emergency lights, reduce their speed, change lanes if possible and proceed with caution, according to a news release.

Besides the 24 Scott's Law violations, the sheriff's office doled out the following warnings and citations:

  • 1 misdemeanor speed citation
  • 1 child restraint violation citation
  • 1 license classification violation
  • 2 electronic communication violations
  • 20 citations for various traffic violations
  • 9 warnings for various traffic violations

Scott’s Law is aimed to protect emergency workers on the side of the road and traffic details are conducted throughout the year to help raise awareness for the safety of roadside first responders.
