3 Charged With Prostitution at 3 CL Businesses

The charges follow an undercover investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Three employees at three different spa facilities in Crystal Lake have been arrested on prostitution charges, police said Thursday. The charges, filed this past week, follow an undercover investigation where Crystal Lake police officers posed as customers at JJ’s Massage, 5899 Northwest Highway; Crystal Spa, 386 W. Virginia Street; and Infinity Day Spa, 435 Angela Lane Unit #8. Officers launched the probe, which happened on Monday and Wednesday, after learning the businesses may be operating as day spas or massage facilities without a valid city permit, according to a news release.

Police had also received complaints that these businesses may be engaged in criminal activity, authorities said.

During the investigation, massage therapy services were provided at each of these businesses without a valid city permit, police said. In addition, employees allegedly attempted to engage in sexual acts with the undercover officers in exchange for payment.

The following employees at each business were arrested for prostitution: Qianyu Warren, 32, of Woodstock (Crystal Spa); Changjuan He, 53, of San Gabriel, Calif. (JJ’s Massage); and Soon D. Kim, 60, of Flushing, NY (Infinity Day Spa).

All of the suspects posted their $1,500 bail and were released from custody. Their next court date is scheduled for July 2.

The employees also did not have a valid Illinois Massage License as required. Additional violations of city ordinances pertaining to business permit violations were also cited.

The businesses all remain open, police said.

“The process for shutting a business down involves many steps,” Crystal Lake Deputy Chief Thomas Kotlowski told Patch. “We are exploring those steps now.”

No evidence of human trafficking was discovered during the investigation, according to authorities.

The city of Crystal Lake Building and Zoning Division continues to investigate the business for numerous building code violations, according to police.
