30 Families Displaced, 1 Injured in Woodstock Apartment Fire

WOODSTOCK, IL - Fifty people from 30 families have been displaced following a large fire at an apartment complex in Woodstock early Saturday. One person was also taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, according to the Northwest Herald.
An unknown individual walking their dogs during the early morning hours of Saturday spotted the blaze at Willow Brooke Apartments, in the 2100 block of Willow Brooke Drive, and began knocking on doors at the complex to alert residents to the fire, the Northwest Herald reports.
"There was a large explosion at 3 a.m. We heard sirens and people were knocking on the doors. It was chaos, " a witness who was a resident of the building told the Northwest Herald. Fire crews arrived and found a balcony at the complex completed engulfed in flames.

At least 15 units were destroyed by the blaze while several more were seriously damaged, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help the fire victims.
Damage is estimated at $2.3 million. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the Northwest Herald.
