6 Displaced in McHenry House Fire

The blaze broke out at a home in the 100 block of Norman Drive in McHenry Monday morning.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - Six people were displaced following a fire at a two-story home in McHenry on Monday morning. The fire broke out at 11 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Norman Drive in McHenry, according to a new release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District. When firefighters arrived, they found a heavy fire coming from the three-car garage of the 2,400-square-foot home.

Fire crews were able to quickly bring the blaze under control, according to a news release. The occupants of the residence made it safely out prior to fire crews arriving on scene and no one was injured in the blaze.

The fire caused an estimated $65,000 in damage and the home is currently uninhabitable, fire officials said. The American Red Cross is assisting the six people that were displaced by the blaze.

Due to strong wind gusts and the extent of the blaze, the outside of a neighboring home was also damaged by the fire. That home is still habitable, according to a news release.

Fire officials do not believe the fire is suspicious in nature and was accidental. The blaze remains under investigation.
