8 Displaced After Blaze At Skyridge Apartments

The fire broke out Sunday afternoon, leaving four units uninhabitable.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Four units at an apartment complex in Crystal Lake are uninhabitable following a massive blaze Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to the fire that started in a a second-floor apartment at Skyridge Club Apartments, 1348 Skyridge Drive, at about 12:25 p.m. Sunday.

The occupants of the apartment where blaze started were not home at the time. The blaze spread to neighboring units, which sustained smoke and fire damage.

Four units at the apartment complex are uninhabitable and the the American Red Cross is working with eight residents who have been displaced following the fire.

All residents in the eight-unit complex were able to safely get out on their own, fire officials said. One resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and later released, according to a news release.

The building did not have a fire sprinkler system or monitored fire alarm system, but the building did have smoke detectors.

The cost of damage to the apartment building is estimated at $200,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
