CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — More than a month after an 8-year-old Crystal Lake boy was found unresponsive in his home and later died, the investigation remains active and has been classified as a death under “suspicious circumstances."
Shaw Local obtained a heavily redacted police report, as well as the initial 911 call from the boy's father who said, "I just went to check on my 8-year-old sleeping, and he seems non-responsive. Please send an ambulance right now."
During the call, the man said the child was not breathing, that he could not find a pulse, and that “a little bit of foam” was coming from the boy’s mouth as the dispatcher instructed him to begin chest compressions, according to Shaw Local. The police report obtained by Shaw Local through a Freedom of Information Act request classifies the investigation as a death under “suspicious circumstances.”
The coroner's office was notified by Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital at around 11 a.m. on June 6 regarding the death of the 8-year-old boy. The child had been transported by ambulance from Crystal Lake to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy was performed on June 9. Authorities have not released the child's identity or disclosed additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
The cause of the boys death remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
