Anonymous Donors To Help Fund Fireworks Show In Crystal Lake

Two individuals have donated $15,000 each to the city to double the funds budgeted for this year's Fourth of July fireworks show.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Two anonymous donors have stepped forward to pay to make sure Crystal Lake's Fourth of July fireworks shows continue to impress this year.

Two individuals, who wished to remain anonymous, offered to donate $15,000 each to expand the 2023 show. The city of Crystal Lake budgeted $30,000 for this year's display, which means the city now has $60,000 to dole out for bigger and better fireworks, according to city documents.

The fireworks show will be held on Sunday, July 2, at Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, on the last day of the Lakeside Festival in Crystal Lake.

Over the past five years, the city also received donations to expand the fireworks show. The donations allow the city to "increase the size and intensity of the show," according to city documents.

The $30,000 donation for this year's show is the same as the amount that was donated in 2022.

The fireworks, as has been the case in the past, will be shot off over the lake and the display shells will be mounted on a floating platform, according to city documents.

The assembly of the show will take place near the center of the lake so that nearby roads can be reopened to traffic, and no wake restrictions will be in place on the lake during the entire time the fireworks are on site, according to city documents.

The Crystal Lake Park District and the Fire Rescue Department "will maintain a safe perimeter between the floating platform and boaters and swimmers during set up and the show," according to the city documents.

The Crystal Lake City Council voted 6-0 in favor of approving the donations during a meeting last week.
