Area Animal House Shelter Seeks To Find Best Match

Cary Area Library hosts an adoption event Saturday for Huntley Animal House Shelter.

The hosted an adoption event Saturday for Huntley the Animal House Shelter, which is a no-kill, nonprofit shelter in Huntley for all breeds of dogs and cats.

Their goal is to match animals to the best possible home to ensure that they are loved.

"Ninety percent of our animals come from kill shelters and we rescue them," Darlene Flessner said.

Flessner started the adoption event at four years ago.

"It does well. We adopt a few animals, and mainly it makes people aware of the Animal House," she added.

"Since 2002, we have adopted out over 17,000 animals," office manager Marlene Sweeney said. "We currently have about 200 dogs and 100 cats."

is helping Animal House Shelter by accepting items and donations for the month of September.

Anyone who would like to donate pet food, pet items, etc. can bring them to the library.

September is Rescue a Kitten Month at Animal House; all kitten adoption donations are $150.

Animal House also is running a program called Senior to Senior.

If you are age 65 or older and adopt an animal that is 8 years or older, then the adoption is no charge.

If interested in adoption, you can fill out an online application or you can stop in and fill it out while looking for your new pet.

The shelter hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is open 365 days a year.
