Area Schools Cancel Evening Activities

Many area libraries will also be closing early. And ice storm warning takes effect at 6 p.m. tonight.

Several local school districts have canceled after-school activities due to the forecasted freezing rain expected to hit the Chicago area this evening. Many schools officials also announced they currently planned to open on Wednesday but to check your school districts website and Facebook pages for more updates.

An ice storm warning takes effect at 6 p.m. for counties throughout the Chicago area.

Here is a look at some area schools that have announced they’d be canceling after school activities on Tuesday:

Libertyville District 128: All activities after 5:30 p.m. have been cancelled.

Wheeling District 21: all activities after 6 p.m. have been canceled.

Arlington Heights District 214: All after-school activities and events occurring after 6 p.m. have been canceled.

St. Charles District 303: All after-school activities after 6 p.m. are canceled.

Geneva District 304: After-School activities starting at 4:30 p.m. or later have been canceled. More information is available here.

Elgin U-46: All after-school activities and events will need to conclude by 6 p.m. today due to the pending ice storm warning in Northern Illinois. This decision means any after-school school activities and events scheduled for 6 p.m. or later, including a documentary screening about our U-46 kindergarten program, have been cancelled. The school day will continue as normal today, Tuesday, and the SAFE program remains open.

Crystal Lake High School District 155: Due to an ice storm warning issued by the National Weather Service, games are canceled and all buildings will be closed to students at 5:30 p.m. Individual coaches and sponsors will notify students regarding activities and practices for tonight.

Huntley District 158: Due to forecasted severe weather to begin this evening, Huntley 158 is cancelling all after-school activities after 6:00 p.m. today. Activities ending prior to 6:00 p.m. will be held, and activity buses will run as normal. The District is taking this precaution in the interest of student safety given the ice storm warning issued by the National Weather Service starting at 6:00 p.m.

Carpentersville District 300: All middle school athletic games and competitions are canceled, all high school games and competitions are canceled, high school scholastic bowl is cancelled, high school and middle school practices and activities scheduled to start after school may begin as planned, but must conclude by 5:30 p.m., and elementary after-school childcare will run as normal.
