Area Veteran To Join Cary Police Department
Anthony Steinke was sworn in by Mayor Tom Kierna July 5, 2011. Steinke begun his police training July 11 at the College of Dupage located in Glen Ellyn.

After 12 weeks of training in the police academy, Military veteran Anthony Steinke will join the Cary Police Department as a patrol officer.
Steinke joined the military in 2004 and spent 18 months in Iraq. He completed his service in 2010, spending a total of six years in the United States Armed Forces.
He said his time in the military was intense but misses doing it.

"I miss the camaraderie, the brotherhood and just people I was with, you build a family with them, so that’s what I’m hoping to gain by coming here (Cary Police Department)."
Steinke said being a police officer was something he always wanted to do.

"When I was younger, I always imagine myself being on ‘Chips’ riding around on a motorcycle," he said. "A lot of people grow up wanting to be doctors, lawyers, president of the United States, I grew up knowing I wanted to be a police officer."
Steinke added, “I never had any bad experience with police officers, I know some people look at them negatively but they don’t understand the concept that there out for everyone’s safety most importantly."
Steinke will spend the next 11 weeks training at the police academy at the College of Dupage located in Glen Ellyn.
