Authorities ID Woman Killed In Elgin Crash

A van traveling in the wrong lane of traffic along Big Timber Road when it collided with a semi Thursday morning.

ELGIN, IL – A 24-year-old woman is dead after a van collided with a semi along Big Timber Road Thursday morning, according to media reports. The collision occurred just west of Route 31 in Elgin at about 9:50 a.m. when a semi heading east on Big Timber struck a van that was heading west but driving in the eastbound lane. A passenger in the van, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the Elgin Courier-News reports.

The semi driver was not hurt and the driver in the van was taken to the hospital, according to the article. The woman killed in the crash has been identified as Amanda Matthiessen, 24, of Volo, according to the Kane County Coroner's Office. Matthiessen died from multiple injuries, according to preliminary cause of death from the coroner's office.

Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsy and sent to a forensic lab. The crash remains under investigation.
