Authorities Investigate Island Lake Armed Robbery
Police are working to determine if it is connected to other area robberies.
ISLAND LAKE, IL -- Authorities in the area are investigating an armed robbery at an Island Lake gas station Sunday night and working to determine if it is connected to similar robberies. The Northwest Herald reports two men entered a Mobil gas station at 520 Newport Court off of Route 176 just after 8 p.m. on Sunday, pretending to buy a soda but then sticking in a gun in the cashier's face when the register was opened. No one was injured and the robbers fled the scene, authorities said.
According to the newspaper, a police presence was noted at two different Shell gas stations in Crystal Lake Sunday night but it was not immediately clear if they businesses had been robbed, according to the Northwest Herald.
Officers in McHenry were tasked Sunday night with letting employees at gas stations in town know about area robberies.
