Blaze Causes $50,000 in Damage to Commercial Building in Crystal Lake

No one was injured in the blaze but the structure has been deemed uninhabitable.

Authorities are investigating a blaze that broke out at a commercial structure fire early Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to the commercial structure at 6207 Factory Road in Crystal Lake at about 12:18 a.m. after the Crystal Lake Police Department responded for a burglar alarm, Crystal Lake Fire Department Battalion Chief William Whyte said in a news release.

Firefighters first on scene fund heavy smoke coming from the roof of the structure, Whyte said.

The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the area of origin in the structure. No one was injured by the blaze, according to fire officials.The rest of the structure sustained smoke damage and the total damage estimates are in excess of $50,000.

The Crystal Lake Building Department responded to the scene and deemed the structure uninhabitable until repairs are made. NICOR and COM-ED also responded to the scene to secure the utilities to the structure, according to the news release.
