'Blue Christmas' Service Planned At Crystal Lake Church

The Dec. 14 service is meant to acknowledge those who may be dealing with the loss of a loved one and heartbreak over the holiday season.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A Crystal Lake church will host a "Blue Christmas" service in the coming weeks to provide a place for those dealing with the loss of a loved one, heartbreak or financial instability to "bring their whole truth," Rev. Emily Davis, a minister at First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, told the Northwest Herald.

The service will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14.

“The Blue Christmas service is an intentional pause from all the flash and distraction, and sometimes the overbearing joy of the holiday season,” Davis told the newspaper. “[It is] a time for folks to acknowledge to themselves and others that, yes, even in this time, we have broken hearts. Even in this season, we are lonely, we feel sadness and pain.”
