Brush Fire Burns Nearly 30 Acres In McHenry County

Harvard, Woodstock, and Union fire crews quickly contained fire that spread through farm fields and wetlands.

The Harvard Fire Protection District responded to a large brush fire Monday afternoon in the 20500 block of Bunker Hill Road in unincorporated Marengo.

Firefighters arrived at 2:43 p.m. and found a rapidly spreading fire moving across several acres of grassy farm fields and cattails, according to a news release.

Due to strong winds, additional apparatus was requested from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and the Union Fire Protection District to handle the fast-moving fire.

The blaze was brought under control within 90 minutes, with crews remaining on scene until 5 p.m. to address remaining hotspots and flare-ups, according to fire officials.

Nearly 30 acres was affected, and one small piece of farm machinery sustained minor damage. No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
