'Careless Use Of Smoking Material' Caused Blaze: Fire Officials

No one was injured when the fire broke out in the basement of a home on Sarasota Lane last week.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — No one was injured when a blaze broke out at a home in Crystal Lake last week.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the house fire in the 900 block of Sarasota Lane at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday. There were two people inside the home when the blaze broke out in the basement who were able to safely get out before firefighters arrived, according to a news release from the fire department.

Firefighters found a refuse receptacle on fire and were able to quickly extinguish it with a fire hose, according to fire officials.

The home sustained minor water and smoke damage, and damage estimates are less than $5,000.

No one was injured in the blaze, and the cause of the fire has been determined to be careless use of smoking material, according to the news release.
