Cary AMVETS Offer Flag Retirement Services

If you have an old, torn or faded American flag, it may be time to retire it.

Cary-Grove AMVETS Post 245 is holding a flag retirement ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 14. The ceremony will take place at Veterans Park, located at First Street and Park Avenue, Cary.

Residents with worn American flags can drop them off at the ceremony itself, or ahead of time at the Cary Village Hall, 655 Village Hall Dr.; Algonquin Township, 3702 Route 14, Crystal Lake; and Fox River Grove Fire Station, 400 Lucille Rd., Fox River Grove.

Members of the community are invited to attend the retirement ceremony, according to a press release issued by the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.

Veterans Picnic

Cary AMVETS also will host its annual Veterans Picnic at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in Lions Park on Beachway Drive in Fox River Grove.

The picnic treats hundreds of veterans from throughout the area and Northern Illinois to a "day in the park filled with barbecue, games and camaraderie," according to the chamber press release.

The AMVETS organization is looking for volunteers to assist with the picnic. Those able to help should arrive at the picnic site at 9 a.m., the press release said.
