Cary Farmer's Market Opens for the Season

Following a successful first season, the Cary-Grove Chamber of Commerce once again will host the Cary Farmer's Market this summer.

Cary's Farmer's Market opens for the season Sunday, June 3. A variety of farmers and vendors, many from McHenry County, will sell market items from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3 through Sept. 30, in the north commuter parking lot near High Road and West Main Street.

"We started the market last year, and it was excellent," said Suzanne Corr, executive director of the chamber. "We had a lot of high quality vendors, and we had a great flow of customers throughout the day. Our vendors were really pleased."

Corr said last year approximately 1,500 people attended the market every week. Organizers originally picked Sunday for their market day as many surrounding communities host similar markets on Saturdays.

"We found Sunday to be a great day," Corr said. "A lot of people stopped by before or after church. It's a great time to do something as a family. Plus, the market is located near the baseball park and we got a lot of people coming over from there."

The market will have the typical selection of fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers. Vendors selling baked goods, jellies, salad dressings, gourmet popcorn, honey and nut butters also have signed up this year. More than 20 vendors are expected this season, Corr said.

"This year, we're going to have more to offer every first Sunday of the month," Corr said. "We'll have entertainment, extra vendors and raffles where winning guests can pick out a bag full of market goods."

The first 100 shoppers also will receive a chamber of commerce shopping bag, Corr said. This market this Sunday will feature young violinists from the Martin Lopez Academy and free mini massages.
